Musikverein Magazine, December 2020
The December issue of the Vienna Musikverein magazine contains an article entitled “The Lied -England’s Liking for Lied Singing”, which contains a paragraph relating to Simon. The original German text and English translation are given below:
The Times published an article by Neil Fisher on 16 July 2020, giving details of the first new opera to be commissioned and performed in a theatre since the lockdown in March. The opera “A Feast in the Time of Plague” has a libretto by Sir David Pountney and music by Alex Woolf. It features a number of British singers including Simon Keenlyside, who will sing the role of Antoine, “a biker playboy”.
The Guardian published an article by Simon himself on 16 November 2021 - "Verdi’s opera is not Shakespeare’s play set to music. It’s a different, but equally beautiful, tangle of colour and emotion, and its lead role is one I am still – after many years – getting to grips with."
